Suddenly, all my Seagate USB drives are not appearing in File Explorer on my laptop. They are working fine, they are detected and function normally on another Windows 10 computer. 1) It is not cables (tried multiple cables). 2) It is not the drives (as noted, tried on another computer and OK). 3) It is not the USB port (tried other hardware and they work fine). 4) Drive appears 'Online' and 'Healthy' in disk manager, but no drive letter assigned. And, it shows that it's 100% free space (which is isn't, as noted, can read and write normally on another computer).

The strange thing is, it appears that it's just the Seagate drives (they are all the same, 2 TB Slim drives). Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! Fritz Golman Chicago IL. Turns out it was of my own making, unbeknownst to me. I was about to go on a business trip and wanted to back up my internal drive as well as my external drive. I don't like the new Windows 10 backup features so I scanned around and found that Paragon Software has a highly rated backup package including a free version.

So I downloaded it and proceeded to backup my drives without a problem. But, evidently, since the Seagate is considered a backup drive, it dismounted it after I was done. And, since all the Seagate Slim drives I have share the same profile, they all became dismounted according to Windows 10. The solution was simple. I was about to uninstall the software but I tried assigning a drive letter in the application and it re-mounted the drive and voila, back in business.

So the moral of the story is to explore what the changes might have taken place since the last known good use and then work through those changes. I thought it was actually a lot more complicated than what it turned out to be! Thank you very much for your reply. I was really hoping that it would solve the problem. However, still same result. Well, I can see that it's saying it's disabled on my laptop. SO, how to enable it is the question!

Thanks again for any insight. Let me point out that I'm attempting to use the USB 3.0 drives on my USB 2.0 laptop. It's been working fine, forever. First time this has happened. And, I did plug in another (non-Slim Seagate drive) into same ports and all is working.

I do know that it's also supplying power just fine, too, as I plugged in an external DVD burner and it read a disk, just fine, as well. I don't believe it's the physical port, either, as it's doing the same on the other ports on laptop, on the dock, and via hub on my monitor. SO, still up the creek. I'll take a look at the logs but I'm not too optimistic about seeing anything there. Was hoping that SFC would turn up something. Figured out what's going on here.
