Just a quick query, I have had a project come up that requires a cheap box with reasonable power, so a scavenging I will go. However I am planning to buy a CPU, Motherboard and RAM. I need to get it quickly and so will be building testing in the weekend. $250 NZ $170 US)is what can be spent on these items. For this I can get and ECS Motherboard (KM400-M2 or L7VMM2), Duron 1.6, and 256MB of RAM.

Onboard video will prob not be used, the old G450 will come out of retirement for this (Dual Screens), however may need to be used in the future. Does anyone have experience or knowledge of the above products that may be useful in making the decision. The specs of both are adequate for the requirements, it is more a query of stability (and will my G450 work in the AGP 8x slot in the KM 400). I will be purchasing one of them in about 20 hours, so a prompt reply would be great.

They are the people who import the ECS motherboards, if you didn't know. No, I don't have an account with Protac, I am going to buy from those crazy kids at QMB in Roskill, I only want to know 'cause they are roughly the same price i.e. Really cheap (70 Kumara). The only other boards in the same range are PC Chips and I am not that desparate (had a bad experience back in the day) Thanks for the link Did you end up buying/using? I've never actually bought and ECS motherboard yet, and am curious to know what will probably come with my motherboard (when I buy, that is).

And also, does it seem pretty stable? The motherboard came with Driver Setup CD (easy installation), 80 Wire/40 Pin IDE cable, floppy cable, manual, motherboard/case back plane. So far it has been stable, installation was a breeze, I have not over clocked any of components or updated the drivers from those that came on the cd (there are a couple of newer ones out), and all in all I am impressed with the quality especially considering the price ($74 + G.S.T).
