For Mac Guy : Pc As Sample Player Server
Click to expand.Sounds great, but fully loaded it's $4100. A 6-core 3.5Ghz (no turbo boost) current Mac Pro w/128GB Ram can be had for less (although not new). I will be looking for one of these used in a couple of years though (for a slave) for half price, thanks! Mac mini's do make great portable rigs. I carry one to live gigs with Protools, 1TB and all my plugins inside, fits in a small briefcase (with a full size keyboard and mouse). Carry a great screen with me and it's like I'm in my studio! Total ripoff in terms of price (as to be expected).
The only interesting thing here is that they managed a 6-core processor, but the thermals are probably awful anyway. I doubt all 6 cores can be pushed to turbo frequencies for any length of time.
Just as a point of comparison, an Intel (4 core / 4.5ghz boost) is about the same size. Base price is $500 for the chassis and processor. Configured with 64GB RAM ($600) and a top-tier 2TB NVME SSD ($570) you're looking at $1670 total. You could get 2 of these with cash to spare for the price of one fully specced Mac Mini, and I guarantee that 2 server PCs is far superior to 1 (assuming that's what you're using them for.).
